The North American
Hut Atlas

A living database of 174 backcountry huts, yurts, cabins, and alpine lodges across the Rocky Mountain West, Pacific Northwest, Sierra Nevada, and Canadian Rockies. For skiers, bikepackers, hikers, and anyone who thinks a wood stove at 10,000 feet is the right way to end a day.

The American West has the densest concentration of backcountry huts outside the Alps, but the information about them lives in forty different operator websites, a few guidebooks, and Reddit threads. This is an attempt to put it in one place. Each entry now includes approach distance, estimated approach hours, approach difficulty, elevation, sleeps, price, a normalized cost per person per night for apples-to-apples comparison, season tag, cell service, water source, features, best-for audience, booking difficulty, distance from Salt Lake and Denver, and notes.
