Notes
Chateau Rotary, built in 2002 with the Powell River Rotary Club, sits at 1207 m at the top of the A branch road. In summer this is the drive to cabin of the three, which is why the club runs its Knucks Burgers feed here after the annual Pond Peak hike and why it draws families and sledders more than skiers. Close in skiing is logged blocks, replant and old road grades; the turns worth the trip are 2.7 km northeast up the Pond Peak Trail, which tops out near 1530 m. Sleeping loft, propane cook stove, picnic table, and a pellet stove, though an OSM survey in March 2018 recorded no pellet stove in the building, so confirm heat before you commit to a cold night. Winter figures assume the A branch is unplowed and you skin the 8 km from the Stillwater Main junction near 380 m. Radio controlled haul road, closed to the public 5am to 6pm Monday to Friday unless you carry a VHF. No lock, no bookings, $20 CAD per person per night suggested. If you only have one night in the Knuckleheads, go to Vic Cole instead.
