A note on mountain roads

Trailhead roads off these main DOT maps are often the ones that actually matter, and they are usually not reported by the state. For forest service roads and county roads to trailheads, cross-reference with the operator, the local ranger district, or a recent trip report. 4WD and chains seasons matter: Berthoud Pass and Red Mountain Pass in Colorado, Teton Pass in Wyoming, Galena Summit in Idaho, and Rogers Pass in BC all close hard in storms.
