A gothic-arch cabin on a burn-scarred bump above Marriott Lake, an hour from Whistler and about 3.5 hours on foot from the salt shed pullout on the Duffey. Solar lighting with four USB chargers, wood stove, four sinks and three cook stations, but you bring your own stove and sleeping bag. In summer the orange-marked trail is a fair first hut trip. In winter it is a different animal: the route is unmarked, it crosses ATES Challenging terrain including the runout of a climax avalanche path, and the ACC will not refund you for getting lost. Party size is capped at 6 to stop anyone locking up the whole hut. No dogs, and the roof loads up with enough snow that the hut is genuinely hard to spot in flat light.
