Notes

Thirty three bunks, eleven doubles and eleven singles, and the only backcountry shelter in the entire BC Parks system you can actually book through camping.bcparks.ca. BC Parks supplies the propane for the thermostat controlled heater and the cooktops, so a stove is backup rather than necessity. Bunks are not assigned, you claim one on arrival, and a single booking covers at most six people, so a party of eight needs two reservations. The first 5 km is the old Diamond Head Chalet access road, which is why bikes are legal all the way to the Elfin Lakes campground and why the grade never turns unpleasant. Winter water is snow melted in the pots provided, summer water is the lower of the two lakes, which is the reason swimming is banned in it and the pit toilets sit where they do. Booking opens 7am Pacific on a rolling three month window and summer weekends go quickly.
