A red arched Himmelsbach hut on the bench above Mountain Lake, on the divide between Furry and Britannia creeks. The door is open and payment is honour system, but the road is not open: Furry Creek FSR is gated at Highway 99 and the key goes only to a BCMC trip leader with a year of membership, four led club trips and a 500 dollar deposit. Everyone else walks or bikes 11 km of gravel before the trail even starts, which is why BCMC says to allow a full day for the 17.5 km. The trail above the road is steep and loose and narrows to a goat path before it eases off at the first lake. Heat is a locked propane system with its own operations manual, and the hut supplies no pots, stove or sleeping pad, so pack a full kit. Britannia Creek is not an alternate, that access is closed under all circumstances. Sky Pilot, Mount Sheer, Ben Lomond and Red Mountain are the day objectives. Dogs are not allowed inside any BCMC cabin. Elevation here is a DEM measurement at the cabin footprint, roughly 1,418 m; the operator's published 1,630 m matches a ridge over a kilometre northeast.
